They belong to two generations of Indonesian tax administration:

• EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) was the activation code for the DJP’s legacy online systems — issued once per taxpayer to enable e-Filing and related services. For years, “getting your EFIN” was step one of online tax compliance.
• Coretax is the DJP’s integrated tax administration system, phased in from 2025. It replaces the patchwork of e-Filing, e-Faktur and related applications with a single platform in which taxpayers (and their authorised representatives) manage registration, returns, invoices and payments.

What this means in practice:

• New taxpayers are onboarded into Coretax; the EFIN-centred workflow describes the old world
• Existing taxpayers’ records migrated to Coretax; credentials and role assignments (in particular the person in charge / PIC who controls the company’s Coretax access) had to be established in the new system
• The PIC designation matters more than EFIN ever did: whoever is registered as the company’s PIC controls its tax administration, which is why the role should sit with a director or a formally-authorised representative — and why changes of management must be reflected promptly in Coretax
• Transition friction is real: registrations, faktur pajak visibility and system behaviour have all had teething problems since the cutover, and some processes still reference legacy elements

If you are reading older guidance that says “first obtain your EFIN”, you are reading about the previous system. What a new company needs today is proper Coretax registration with a correctly-designated PIC — which Okusi handles as part of tax compliance setup.

Since the Coretax DJP system went live on 1 January 2025 (PMK 81/2024), EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) is a legacy credential: from tax-year-2025 filings onward it is no longer used for login, password reset, or tax return (SPT) verification. Its functions have been replaced by Coretax account activation and the DJP Authorisation Code or digital certificate. The current procedures and costs are:

Coretax Account Activation (replaces EFIN):

• Account registration and activation are free of charge
• Done online at the Coretax DJP portal (coretaxdjp.pajak.go.id)
• Required information includes:
  • Tax ID number (NPWP, or NIK for resident individuals)
  • Valid email address
  • Active Indonesian phone number
• Identity verification is done through the registered email address or SMS — no video call is required

DJP Authorisation Code / Digital Certificate:

• Tax documents submitted through Coretax must be electronically signed using either a DJP Authorisation Code (Kode Otorisasi DJP) or an electronic certificate
• The DJP Authorisation Code is issued free of charge by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT): log in to Coretax, open “My Portal” (Portal Saya), and select “Authorization Code/Electronic Certificate Request”
• Alternatively, a certified electronic certificate can be obtained from a licensed Electronic Certification Provider (PSrE); this is a paid option (fees vary by provider, typically with annual validity) that some companies prefer for broader electronic-signing use

Important Notes:

• An activated Coretax account is essential for accessing the DGT’s online tax services
• A valid DJP Authorisation Code or electronic certificate is required for e-invoicing and other electronic tax reporting through Coretax
• Existing EFIN numbers do not need to be renewed or maintained; taxpayers who have not yet activated a Coretax account should do so
• It’s advisable to keep your authorisation code or electronic certificate valid to ensure uninterrupted access to online tax services
